In line with a recent post and a state of Doug
doug: I’m looking forward to buying new gloves and a new toque of some sort this evening. If I can’t stop nature, and I must endure another winter in this city, I might as well try to do it with as little fuss as possible. As is usually the case, I feel that I haven’t had enough time to do all that I wish to. For instance, there’s still that pile of books over a thousand pages tall to go...

Doug Fact
doug: As soon as it gets cold out (such as it is currently) I enjoy wearing scarves inside the apartment. Not because I feel any warmer, but because it’s a little bit of adventure.

Doug Facts
doug: I speak in a lot of circles and metaphors. In response to an email just a minute ago where someone described me as “metaphor man” I had to actually stop myself from using metaphor to describe why I’m this way. It’s not a planned thing, I think it just makes my days and conversations with people far less boring (for me).

Doug Fact
doug: Although its meager popularity came and went long before I was aware of it, shoegaze / dream pop music is a fantastic listen. I don’t know who any* of the bands are/were, or what songs were ‘the best’ so it’s all just one big lovely cloud of perfume. *I’m well aware of My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus & Mary Chain, but I’m talking about any other bands. Seriously, just search...

It'll weigh a couple pounds
doug: My first publicly available photo book, Cartography I-III, is on its way to the printers. Total size is around 860MB. The next couple nights will be spent figuring out what I want to do for art prints as well, and when it’s all ready I’ll post more about them here. It looks like whether I wanted it to be or not, the book is going to end up expensively priced. The high price is the...

doug: remember that at any moment you’re only about $700 in paperwork away from creating a registered corporation and being your own boss. Known Upsides: corporate taxes are ridiculously low; the freedom to amortize your expenses/equipment investments; spending your time making work you value; and much much more. Known Downside: dealing with bank loans to fund the above items; property rental...

On Andrew W.K.
doug: If you don’t particularly care for awesome things, you can skip this post. Simply, if you want to feel great about life, you’re a fan of Andrew W.K. All of them. It’s more or less been known for a few years but it’s finally been announced, by the man himself, that Andrew W.K. is more or less a construct. I’ll leave you to follow the link and actually watch the videos/interview linked...

On Andrew W.K. (from Jesse Thorn)
doug: Continuing the discussion, Jesse has posted his thoughts: I know Andrew personally and have known him for years. We’re not close friends or anything, but we keep in touch. He’s been a guest on my radio show four times, and once on my podcast-only show. I had his first EP, which he released independently. I have a friend who went to high school with him. This corporate construct /...

“Next year is to be known as 20X”
– Me I’m claiming it now. Not only is it 2010, and stupid, it means 20X as in 20X whatever happened before. You like ice cream? 2010 is 20X the ice cream you like. You hate shoelaces becoming untied? 2010 is 20X that. Everything, 20X, 2010, let’s do this. (via doug)
