doug:
If you don’t particularly care for awesome things, you can skip this post. Simply, if you want to feel great about life, you’re a fan of Andrew W.K.
All of them.
It’s more or less been known for a few years but it’s finally been announced, by the man himself, that Andrew W.K. is more or less a construct. I’ll leave you to follow the link and actually watch the videos/interview linked within it to find out the details.
I’ve met the man, I’ve shaken his hand and we’ve all hugged. The point, I feel, is that regardless of who ‘is’ Andrew W.K. I don’t see any harm in his positive message or the spirit that he fills people with. It wasn’t like I told the people in the photo above “Okay, now pose like it’s the last supper and AWK is Jesus,” it’s just what happens.
I’ll see him again at MaxFunCon in approximately four months. I will thank him for his kind words about my photographs, and I will thank him for helping to push what I feel Maximum Fun is about- sharing time and space with people over things that make you feel better. Remember, it’s not “Sort of Fun,” and it’s sure not “Kind of Fun”.
It’s a shame he has to generally age (or does he?). It’d be pretty cool in my books to have AWK stay the same general age/personality for all generations. Many actors, one role. To tell generations “Andrew W.K. will always be there to help you party hard when you have doubts” is about as close to faith and belief that I want to get.
(update: there’s been clarification that AWK is in fact only one man, but his spirit is that of many men. His level of inspiration is infinite.)
